   About CNAA

Asian-American is a fast-growing minority in the United State and the Chinese American are the largest Asian group in Rhode Island. According to the 2000 census, for the last decade, Rhode Island's Chinese population climbed fifty-five percent. However, minorities face many barriers to health care and they tend to receive a lower quality of health care, according to research. These barriers are further exacerbated in the Chinese community because of cultural and linguistic difficulties. There is a great need for all forms of health promotion and health education programs in this community.

Health promotion and disease prevention education in RI Chinese community is one of our mission priority. We have conducted many health workshops since 2002. Topics include: early prevention and treatment of breast cancer and cervical cancer, diabetes prevention, osteoporosis prevention, anti-smoking art contest in youth group, fall prevention for elderly, annual Flu shot promotion, child obesity prevention, health out -reach to Chinese restaurant workers, emergency preparedness in Chinese community, promote vegetable gardening with RI Asian youth and so on.

The workshops were well attended and heartily welcomed in the Chinese community. The Office of Minority Health of Department of Rhode Island rewarded mini-grants to our organization for our efforts of eliminating health disparities. We successfully operated a Health Promotion Center for the period of July 2004 through June 2007 with the rewarded grant from RI Department of Health . Since 2008, Chinese Nurse Association of America has been involved with Nursing Assistant training program, cooperating with Hope Nursing Home Care to promote minority health care workforce.
